Privacy policy
What we collect, why, and the choices you have. Last updated 24 August 2026.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy explains how Baytak collects, uses and protects personal data for anyone who visits our pages, creates an account, publishes a listing, or contacts a lister — whether or not you register.
2. Data we collect
- Account data: your name, email, phone/WhatsApp number, preferred city, and account type (individual, agent or agency). Your password is stored hashed by our authentication provider — we never see it in plain text.
- Listing data: everything you add to a listing — photos, price, description, location, ownership and registration details.
- Contact and usage events: which listings you view, search, save, or contact a lister about, so listers can see how their property is performing and so we can improve search relevance. Identifiers attached to these events are hashed, not stored raw.
- Device and log data: IP address, browser, and similar technical information, collected automatically when you use the platform.
- Anything you send us directly — for example through the Contact page or a support request.
3. How we use it
- To operate the marketplace: show you listings, connect you with listers on WhatsApp, and let listers manage what they publish.
- To review and moderate listings before publication.
- To keep the platform secure and prevent abuse.
- To send account and listing-status updates.
- To understand how the platform is used and to improve it.
- To comply with legal obligations.
4. Legal basis
We process personal data on the basis of your consent (for example, registering an account or requesting alerts), the performance of a contract (delivering the marketplace service you asked for), and our legitimate interest in operating and securing the platform — consistent with Egypt's Personal Data Protection Law No. 151 of 2020.
5. Who we share data with
- Other users, only as needed: your WhatsApp number appears on listings you publish and is revealed to a visitor only when they choose to reveal it — never shown in bulk and never put in a URL.
- Service providers who process data on our behalf under contract: our authentication provider for sign-in and session management, our object storage provider for photos, and our hosting provider.
- Authorities, where required by law or to protect the rights, property or safety of Baytak, our users, or the public.
6. What we do not do
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers. We do not publish your phone number until a visitor explicitly asks to see it. We do not put personal data in URLs.
7. Cookies
We use a small number of first-party cookies to keep you signed in and remember your language. See our Cookie Policy for the complete list — there are only two, and neither is an advertising or third-party tracking cookie.
8. Data retention
We keep account and listing data for as long as your account is active. Contact and usage events are retained for up to two years for performance reporting and fraud prevention, then deleted or fully anonymised. Data from a closed account is deleted or anonymised within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to meet a legal obligation.
9. Security
We restrict access to personal data to the people and systems that need it, encrypt data in transit, and never see or store your password in plain text.
10. International transfers
Our authentication and storage providers may process data on servers outside Egypt. Where that happens, we rely on providers that maintain recognised security and data-protection standards.
11. Your rights
To exercise any of the rights below, contact us — we will respond within 30 days.
- Ask what personal data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Ask us to delete your account and associated personal data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where processing relies on it.
- Ask for a copy of your data in a portable format.
12. Children
Baytak is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the platform changes. We will post the new version here with an updated date.
14. Contact
Questions or requests about your data: hello@baytak.example, or through our Contact page.
